Me and my obssession with BOOKS.

Don’t even remember since when I started liking books so much.

I dream to be like those ang mohs you see in Starbucks and Coffeebean who like to buy a cuppa hot Cappucino or Mocha and sit inside and just reeeead.

Dammit, why am I so poor? A trip to Starbucks/Coffeebean would cost me more than half an hour of my pay.

I read somewhere that if you compare the cost of everything to the hourly rate you’re being paid, you would spend alot less. I think that’s really true. And my hourly rate isn’t even really low for a temp job.

I mean, my pay as a car washer was like $4.50!

I digress.

Anyway, I had that so-near-yet-so-far sense of loss as I walked into Times bookshop again that day.

Why is it that some people just choose whatever books they want and drop it into their shopping cart and just buy them? While I could only walk around salivating and standing there, like the child looking at his favorite red sports shoes through the shopping window?

Added a book list to the side bar.

Aye, I have decided. When I become damn rich one day (I said when, not IF).

I shall have a study room with tons of books and I would shop at Amazon and drop stuff into my shopping cart at will and I shall read my books over a cuppa hot coffee every morning!

Argh~~

Contract extended till 31st July.

“All I want to do is slack.”
===

Lost my planner!!

It’s not so much the loss of it that’s jialat, but the loss of everything I’vwritten inside. Don’t even know where I lost it.
===

I’m gonna be spending so much money.

Have made the painful decision to buy a new MP3 player and DVD burner and probably a portable hard disk.

Probably about $400 in total. About half a month’s pay.

Aww damn since I’m gonna be working so long anyway might as well use the money to make myself happy bwahahah.

Donald Trump.

The second book I finished over the weekend was actually by Donald Trump.

He made me regret not watching The Apprentice. I wonder if I can download the series online. Should be can right.

I think having muscle aches from IPPT was a blessing in disguise. The whole weekend I was snuggling in bed manifesting my true desire as a geeeeek.

Anyway, xunming hates Donald Trump as he thinks he’s too xia lan, but I think a multi-billionaire with HIS achievements, which are many, and not even restricted to monetary ones, has every right to be xia lan.

In any case, since we are not multi-billionaires ourselves, we don’t understand how they think, and we ourselves can’t say we won’t be xia lan if we ARE multi-bills, so we shouldn’t comment in this aspect.

Anyway, I think he’s kick-ass cool cos he leads a very well-rounded lifestyle, he plays golf, he contributes to charity organizations, he has friends, he does The Apprentice, and he’s, well, xia lan.

Isn’t that the reason why people like Jose Mourinho as well? Okay maybe not that many people like him, but oh well.

Plus sometimes he doesn’t even TRY to be xia lan, but was only speaking the truth. Like when he gave advice on buying real estate.

“It might not matter to me, but for you, you might have to take into consideration the cost…” etc etc.

It’s true wad.

Oh ya there’s this piece of statistics about Bill Gates from some magazine that I thought was quite cool.

The amount of money a movie ticket costs, when taken in proportion to an averge joe’s networth is let’s say X%. If a movie ticket costs Bill Gates X% as well, that bloody ticket would be worth, erm, I forgot the exact amount, but I think it’s in the range of tens of thousands.

Amazonia.

Found it very interesting and was a good read.

It’s written by the ex senior editor at Amazon, James Marcus, and chronicles its rise and fall. Okay maybe “fall” is a wrong word to use, but compared to its hey-day, Amazon has really become much less a prevalent entity.

James joined the company when it was made up of only like, 5 people, and was actually interviewed by Jeff Bezos himself. Well that’s kind of remarkable because Amazon eventually grew to a peak of having like 8000 employees so being interviewed by the big boss man himself must have been a pretty un-thinkable experience no?

James also described the experience of becoming a paper millionaire overnight (with Amazon stocks) to becoming an overnight average Joe (dot com bubble burst, to becoming a millionaire again (through massive acquisitions), and to becoming a not-so-affluent millionaire afterwards (eBay).

He talks of how they (editors) had to help out at the company warehouse during holidays and of course, how much they hated it. They were editors afterall.

Later on, as computers and more sophisticated technology became even more omnipotent, editors were growing to become more of a liability than an asset and thousands of eployees were given the pink slip due to downsizing.

All in all, his anecdotes and tongue-in-cheek jokes were indeed very entertaining and made for a very good read.

IPPT.

I didn’t know there were gonna be so many of them taking the test on the same day. About 80 people in all, I think. But I was one of the youngest there, the rest all like quite uncle.

So many of them drove there.

And one of them was wearing this bright orange Asics singlet and his OCS shorts. An officer, huh. Scared people dunno he officer meh? He looks pretty fit lah, budden what for wear until so flashy? Not like people really give a shit.

So yeah, I was actually quite surprised that the whole thing flowed through quite smoothly. Guess it’s probably only during NS that it’s compulsory to do everything as ineffectively as possible.

It felt kinda funny walking into an army camp again after so long. Smelt rifles, saw lok kok buildings, bunks, yellow boxes, training sheds and all. NS sucks, but it leaves you with fond memories.

So yeah, proceeded with all the static stations without much trouble, but the sit-up station was quite embrarrassing. 42 earned you 5 points, but I did 42 with 30 seconds remaining and I suddenly thought, “Eh, 42 or 52 ah?” Then frantically chionged for another 10 more, then realized that 42 was sufficient.

Wait people think I hao lian.

Most of the stations I just did barely sufficient to get silver nia. I was quite surprised I managed 8 chin ups and had strength to spare muahahaha but I jumped off anyway cos do so many also no use.

And it appeared that the OCS guy wasn’t all that fit afterall, cos I think he did pretty average in most stations.

Then we went for 2.4, my most hated station, and 10 seconds after the run started I was already like “fuck fuck fuck” liao aye too long never run. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn tired lah, after the run, and old me is still like having muscle aches now ta ma de.

I think my timing was like 11.28, which is quite slow, but I still came in 5th, which goes to show how nua reservists are. I actually came in before the OCS guy lor, I wonder if he feels embarrassed.

See lah, so hao lian, now malu.

Maybe it’s the officer pride thing. Something I can’t really fathom. Yeah lah I guess it’s really prestigious and I have cool friends who are from OCS but what’s up with swords of HONOUR and commission balls and the rule that only officers can wear collared shirts while the rest of us lesser human beings are doomed eternally to wearing ugly round-necked t-shirts?

Not that I wanna wear collared shirts (round-neck is comfy enough thank you) but why make that distinction? And I think people who use their number one photos as MSN pics are.. erm.. weird.

Mindef has made OCS such a hyped-up thing don’t you think.

I’m not scorning officers and sour-graping here but I really think those officers with their heads high in the air need to get their feet back on the ground. I’ve seen so many fucked-up officers and I really wonder how they got into OCS in the first place.

Aye I got distracted.

Well anyway I did manage to get my silver so that’s $200 for a morning’s “work” muaha thanks Mindef.

Ramblings.

Wow I’m very flattered that buang actually read my FD post haha.

But hey, I’m not saying that the FD is a bad thing, I’m just saying it is something that has a very real potential of killing any relationship.

It’s bound to occur, and yeah I agree with you whole-heartedly that it’s when you have differences to talk about that allows the relationship to grow.

I guess my point is that two people could be so remarkably alike in so many aspects and get along so well, and yet have a very large FD in between them.

And that’s pretty interesting, I think.

Bm’s in Taiwan now and I forgot the number to use to SMS her! Bm are u reading this? Send me your number again leh.

Okay maybe I should email you.
===

Our contract with the company has been AUTO-RENEWED! I kinda feel like slacking at home leh, somemore I got so many books I want to read!

Contract’s supposed to end on the 16th, and it’s already the 9th today, but Jo’s gonna start interviewing perms only next week. Damn, we feel so exploited.

Next week May’s not gonna be around for the whole week muahahaha Xunming the hua chi boi is gonna be oh-so love-sick.

Today morning the office felt so dangerously of explosives. Jo was scolding Gen for being late by 5 minutes. Then me, who was late by 15 minutes, sat at my table in fear but lucky she didn’t come and scold me haha.

I think she knows she can’t offend me and XM now also, cos if we quit now, she really jia lat jia lat.

But I made up the 15 minutes back to her by OTing 45 minutes so it’s a fair deal.

More than fair, actually.

Unfair, in fact.

Even Shervenne lost temper today!

Damn funny. I mean, it’s Shervenne!

She was on the phone with some bank person and was like,

“I’d call you when I recieve payment.

I’ll call you.

I’LL CALL YOU.”

Haha I think it was some irritating bugger.

One advantage of liking cars is that at least you won’t get too bored on bus rides to work.

You just keep looking at cars.

And their drivers.

Today I saw this hot hot chick driving an E-Class with his dad by the side. Hot and rich!
===

Tomorrow I’m taking IPPT.

Ta ma de, damn sianz. Hope I get Silver.
===

Today my nose bled.

Must be lack of sleep.
===

Just as I was talking about not having bm’s taiwan phone number, saw her on MSN.

Seems like she’s having lots of fun, she better bring back her bg lots of presents.
===
Going to sleep liao.

Argh stupid IPPT.

Businessmen and the rest of the world.

Heard of the case about Fandhi Ahmad being sued by two people?

My dad was just telling me, one of those guys suing him is ALBERT. He’s some guy with quite alot of dealings with my dad and I see him quite alot.

I was like, wah, Albert do until so “jue2″ ah.

Then my dad was like, “what jue2, this is the way things are wad, you’ve gotta take responsibility for your own actions, that’s the way it is.” And he always seems to feel that his kids are not business savvy enough to take over his business.

But in my opinion, before a person becomes a businessman, the common instinct would be to consider sparing whoever you’re dealing with, and resorting to suing only during dire consequences, right?

I think he should be more worried if his son reacts by saying “yeah baby, sue him sue him, sue him till he needs to pawn his toothbrush to buy toilet paper for the family!”

Still, I really don’t think you need to be unscrpulous to be a successful business person. Sure you need to know how to fend yourself against these types of people, but you don’t need to join in their league.

But then again, maybe I’m still too tender to comment.

Another new skin.

Yes, again, a new skin.

Yes, again, an unfurnished new skin. I don’t normally like having jobs undone and I know I have weird links at the top but aiyah I like this template so I think I’s just leave this as it is and make changes some other day.
